Pickerel Bay Cabins is located in the heart of the Boreal Forest also known as the Taiga forest. The name Taiga ( tie-ga ) is Russian: Circumpolar belt of coniferous forest just south of the Tundra region ranging from Alaska all of Canada, Europe and Asia.

Temperatures in the Taiga could range from -50f in the winter mos. to over +90f in the summer mos. Good news for our guest, May through Sept. temps. range from 50f to 60f in May and gradually warmer into June , July , and August eventually cooling in Sept. and on. Travelling through the Taiga is an adventure all in itself. A very distinct transistion in the country side occurs. From the broad Canadian plains,into the Birch/Aspen hills across the Saskatchewan River into the Taiga locally referred to as the " bush ".

Getting to La Ronge, Saskatchewan:
Vehicle: La Ronge is accessible by paved highways from any U.S. border crossing. The highways are from excellent to good.
 Commercial Airlines: N.W.A. and United Air fly dailey into Saskatoon (customs). United now offers a direct flight from Denver to Saskatoon. After clearing customs our guest have three options to get to La Ronge. One is to fly from Saskatoon direct to La Ronge via. Trans west air ph.1-306-425-2382. Several major auto rental concessions are located in the Saskatoon airport.
The highway from the airport to La Ronge is an excellent road, appox. a four hour drive. For our guest that are flying we recommend using Lobstick Travel.
